Repair or replace?
Most doors that stop locking need a new mechanism, not a new door. A new door costs far more.
We carry the common parts in the van. If your door really is past repair, we will say so.

A French door that would not open
A returning customer's French double back door would not open. We had changed the lock on this door a couple of years before.
Questions people ask us
My handle has gone floppy. Can it be fixed?
Usually, yes. It is often the gearbox inside the door. We replace it, not the whole door.
My key turns but the door won’t open.
That is usually the mechanism. Call us and we tell you what it is likely to be.
My door only locks if I lift the handle hard. Is that a problem?
It means the door has dropped or the mechanism is wearing. Left alone it will stop locking altogether, usually on a cold night. Realigning the door or replacing the mechanism fixes it in one visit.
Do you fix old doors?
Yes. We often fix doors that are fifteen or twenty years old.
Do I need a new door?
Almost never. A plastic (uPVC) or composite door that will not lock needs a new mechanism, handle or cylinder, which costs a fraction of a new door. If the door itself is past it, we say so.
Can you repair a French door or a patio door?
Yes. French doors, patio sliders and bifolds have their own mechanisms and we carry the common ones in the van.
How long does a door repair take?
Most door repairs take under an hour and a half, including fitting a new mechanism. We tell you if yours is likely to take longer.
